Masterpieces From Spring 2019

There is great uniformity within this resume. For example, three bullets are consecutive under each listed job. The post is simple, but effective in the way that everything is spaced out and in their given section. Grids were apparently used because of the formation of text. The globe is an extra touch to make the resume different from standard ones.

Very effective use of colors and greyscale in the image. The issue being addressed isn't a positive one and the colors are evident of that. The red frame around the text is effective in conveying a strong and important message but possibly made it harder to read. The placement of images and body copy flow together and are visually appealing. The header and subhead are short and effective in getting the message across that fresh water is needed. Cap sized texts also supports the importance of the issue.

The images used give an idea of what each establishment has to offer. There are no more than 3 font sizes used to avoid not being able to read the text. There is just enough information so you want to know more and the option is provided because websites are present for each establishment. The layout of images is creative and not so generic.

The postcard includes a rap around text compared to a generic paragraph, which makes the postcard more visually appealing. The text size and color are appropriate for the dark colored background. The image is well cropped and positioned. It looks as If, the individual is looking at the text. The centered position of the logo is a border between the image and text.

Great use of the shape tool in illustrator to make these round circles. The two tones of blue compliment each other. The font is nostalgic and effective in creating a powerful logo. There is just enough space in between characters.

Layouts Matter

Magazine Layouts For Beginners

This is a critique of Emma Watson’s two page magazine spread. One major strength in the two page layout is the position of the image of Emma Watson. It wouldn’t be as visually appealing if it were on the left side of the two page layout compared to the right side. If not because of her body position, then because it would be a random image and no explanation of what it was. Another strength of this layout was the use of a grayscale color, which helped emphasize the mysteriousness of the spread and the dress Emma is featured in. According to google, siren call is the enticing appeal of something alluring but potentially dangerous and it is completely evident why the title of the spread would be Siren Call. Emma Watson looks mysteriously dangerous and appealing in the image with her subtle expression. The layout of the text could’ve been designed better. There is no reason why it was necessary for the title of the spread to take up half of one page and continue off the page. The S in Siren is the first thing that captures an eye, it’s certainly not the image of Emma Watson. In addition, It was smart to have a short intro paragraph explaining Emma Watson’s transition from Harry Potter to fashion and education but It could’ve been placed beneath the title. A photo of Emma Watson during her Harry Potter days as Hermione would’ve made for a great alternative and space user. Almost like a before and after because Hermione blossomed towards the end of Harry Potter but was no supermodel. The one or two images of Hermione could’ve been a barrier between the intro paragraph and the text itself. The addition of the full page spread of Emma Watson would have emphasized her transition even more. A major weakness is the use of at least three font sizes on this magazine spread, which can cause readers to lose attention. The fonts themselves are fun and enticing. Finally, the piece is strongly designed but could’ve been even better.

Does Your Resume Have What It Takes?

This resume was somewhat well thought out and is somewhat visually appealing. However, It is evident that the designer utilized a column to continue the “I,” in Christina down as a divider between sections. This resume uses too many font sizes and Christina’s use of the bold feature was used wrong. For example, she bolded the various places of employment that she held, her college and clubs that she had been a member of. However, It would have been a better idea to bold the positions that she has held at her various places of employment, what she had majored in while enrolled in college, and her top position in clubs that she was a member of. An appealing visual may have been a good place to start because the resume almost feels empty. It is

definitely necessary for employers to know where you have worked but it is just as important if not more to understand what specific experience you have. One weakness discovered is that there is not much uniformity in the resume. Some jobs mentioned under work experience have just two, three or even four bullets. There are too many bullets to count under skills and its evident that there was no planned design from shortest word to largest word, things were just entered. Lastly, an address isn’t really necessary on the resume because no one will be mailing anything to anyone’s home.

                                                 Hidden Messages in the Media

Visual communication is the form of communication that gets me to respond the most. Visuals
are known to stimulate the brain more and can be implanted in your memory. Visual
communication allows you to express ideas in a free and creative nature. Situational awareness is
important in determining the necessary tools in visual communication. The necessary tool in
visual communication is the image itself. Sometimes words are not necessary and images are
enough to get messages across. Companies like Apple and Nike are so well known that they may
not need to utilize type, but just visuals of their product and brand logos. However, there must be
a use of strong visuals that incorporate the theme or message of the visual for the viewer to be
able to understand. Apple, Coca-Cola and AT&T all have pretty good visual communication.

Coca-Cola sells happiness in each and every one of their ads. All of their ads utilize
happy individuals and center the product, a bottle or can of Coke. Their ads show unity because
many times they utilize the primary Coke colors red and white. Also because the vintage feel is
maintained throughout this ad by the vintage toys, and glass bottle of Coke. This specific ad sells
the idea of happiness by utilizing an image of Santa Claus drinking a Coke before delivering
toys. The visual allows you to infer that Coke spreads happiness to Santa and through him to the
kids receiving those toys.

AT&T cleverly utilizes the form of arms and hands converging, as if both hands were
texting to represent the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. The brand’s logo, which is a globe with
rings around it that represent service connection bars, represent the ability of global phone
coverage. This is more than enough to increase message understanding and the text just adds
support and detail. The visuals work with the text to clearly convey to the consumer that
AT&T’s coverage can take you to 215 countries and more. The ad uses bright but subtle colors
to convey positivity in the ad because everyone can appreciate good phone service. One great
thing these companies have in common is that they all made their products and services the
center of the ads and did not overcrowd them.

This Weight Watchers add uses subtle colors to promote positivity in their
advertisement. The visual works with the text in the ad to convey the message that Weight
Watchers will surely help you decrease your body fat.The advertisement comically uses two size
doors, one larger with an entrance sign and one smaller with an exit sign as a metaphor. The
larger door symbolizes the larger, unhappy weight that you might currently possess when you
turn to Weight Watchers for help and the smaller one for the smaller, healthier size you will be
after partaking in their program. The advertisement uses the idea that less is more and stays away
from using bold text and colors, making them more effective in getting their message across.
